Lightning sign forward Geoff Walker

The Tampa Bay Lightning, after already making several moves earlier this week to take care of the Syracuse Crunch, have made another on the first day of free agency. It’s just been announced that the Lightning has signed forward Geoff Walker to a one-year, two-way deal. Walker spent last season with the Lake Erie Monsters, where he potted 5 goals and 15 assists in 51 games. Before that, Walker played two full seasons with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, amassing 29 goals and 45 assists during those two years.

Walker is 6-foot-3, 225 pounds. He’s a rather big player who is projected to be a big physical presence for Syracuse. This is probably a move to add a presence like J.F. Jacques, a forward who was signed mid-season this past year for similar purposes. Jacques was not asked back by the Lighting. Going by his numbers, however, Walker may be an even better grab than Jacques, who was 5-2 in 24 games with the San Antonio Rampage last season.
