Tampa Bay Lightning sign goalie Anders Lindback, defenseman Matt Taormina

Another restricted free agent down, a single one to go for the Tampa Bay Lightning. The Bolts announced they have signed goaltender Anders Lindback to a 2-year contract this afternoon. That signing brings the organizations remaining unsigned restricted free agent down to one: goaltender Jaroslav Janus.

Lindback, 24, was acquired last month from the Nashville Predators (along with forward Kyle Wilson) in exchange for a pair of 2nd round draft selections and the Lightning’s 3rd round choice in 2013 and the rights to unrestricted free agent Sebastien Caron as well.

Lindback, a 6′ 6″ behemoth, is looked at as the team’s future in net. He’ll likely be sharing starting duties with veteran Mathieu Garon during the 2012-13 season, while next year may pit him with former first round draft choice Riku Helenius (if, that is, Helenius re-adapts to the North American game).

Also announced this morning was the signing of free agent defenseman Matt Taormina to a two-way contract. Taormina had been playing in the New Jersey Devils organization the past three seasons, splitting time between Albany of the AHL and the New Jersey lineup this past season. This is a depth signing, with Matt Taormina heading to Syracuse to aid the Crunch.
