This week’s poll: What are we worried about now?
This season, Senior Columnist Clark Brooks will take the pulse of Raw Charge nation with a weekly poll about current or future events and non-happenings, for the sake of accomplishing not much, probably.
When the Lightning beat the Edmonton Oilers 3-1 on Sunday (well, actually when the Anaheim Ducks beat the New Jersey Devils later that night, but the Bolts took care of their own business and didn’t exactly back in), they officially clinched a spot in the 2018 Stanley Cup Playoffs. In doing so, they simultaneously becoming the first team in the Eastern Conference to punch their ticket while also securing their fourth appearance in five years and cleansing the sour taste of the not-quite-good-enough 2016-17 season.
Having met what is now considered the minimum standard of excellence at such a relatively early date takes some pressure off. There’s still much to play for in what’s left of the current regular season: a division title and the relatively perceived advantages that come with that chief among them. But there will be no sweating over “Will They or Won’t They?” up to and including the last couple of games, because they already have.
This presents a new predicament for those of us who enjoy worrying about things that are beyond our control. Actually, it’s less that we like it and more that we’re just really good at it. We’ll find something-that’s part of being good at it: there’s never really a shortage of anxiety inducers. But what will it be? Pick your favorite in this week’s poll and maybe share your thoughts with us in the comments!
