That’s a wrap!
The Crunch are now pretty much guaranteed an early golfing season thanks to an absolutely dismal February. Going into the All-Star break at the end of January, Syracuse was still firmly in a playoff spot despite player shortages, a nearly-empty depth cupboard, and a three-game losing streak. Unfortunately, the Crunch then effectively killed any hopes they may have had of time in the playoffs (however short that time would have been…hint: it would have been short), by losing 8 out of the 11 games they played this past month. They dropped like a stone in the standings because of those losses, and time has basically run out on their ability to climb out of the hole they’ve dug themselves.
Better luck next year, I guess.
Other transactions, player, and organizational news:
-The Crunch are again participating in a Change for Change initiative this season, and are hoping to raise even more than last season with an extended campaign. Change for Change is an initiative created by Crunch Captain Mike Angelidis and his teammates that aims to raise money for pediatric cancer research at Upstate Golisano Children’s Hospital and help improve the odds for children with cancer. All TampaCuse fans can help out by donating through their Go Fund Me page.
–Lightning prospects Matthew Peca and Joel Vermin returned to the Crunch’s line up over the weekend. Peca had a stellar first game back, scoring a goal and netting an assist. Vermin netted a goal during Sunday’s game at Binghamton.
-Syracuse was finally able to dress Crunch defenseman Daniel Walcott as a (gasp!) defenseman this past weekend.
