Day 7 of the NHL lockout, and I’m going for drives in search of local ice rinks. All I need is to be in one, just to smell the ice, just for a little bit. Really, I can stop anytime I want to. Really. I can.
Shockingly, it turns out, there are figure skaters in ice rink, too. I’m not sure how I feel about that. How can anyone skate without a stick in their hands? And how do they body check other figure skaters without any gear? It defies the imagination.
I may have creeped out the Zamboni driver, though, at the last rink I was at. He didn’t quite understand why I thought that only one Zamboni couldn’t do the job fast enough. But then, maybe it was also the fact that he couldn’t finish resurfacing the ice with me lying in front of the Zamboni. It’s hard to say, really.
I think I may need one of those plasma balls to simulate the Tesla coils going off here soon.
