Last night’s 2013 AHL Calder Cup Playoffs opener was described often as chippy, and seemed to be a physical affair for a Syracuse Crunch team that is hosting a few too many bruised defensemen as-is.

Here are video highlights of last night:

A win tonight puts the Crunch on the verge of advancing to the AHL Eastern Conference semifinals. But if the Crunch Bunch are going to do that, they’re going to need to settle down and focus their emotions and fire on the game itself and not on extracurricular activities on ice. A physical grudge-match might set the tempo but also has the potential to wear down teams faster. Crunch fans know this from history, Norfolk Admirals and Tampa Bay Lightning fans who watched the 2012 Calder Cup Final also beheld this — as the Ads ran circles around the physically worn down Toronto Marlies on their way to a sweep of the finals.

The Crunch lineup is expected to be the same tonight as it was last night – meaning Mark Barberio (who went down with a leg injury during the game yesterday) will be on the blue line again for Syracuse.
