An optimistic update on goalie Kristers Gudlevskis

Kristers Gudlevskis injury early last week with the close of the prospect tournament in Estero raised a panic. The club had already lost a goalie before camp had started when Andrei Vasilevskiy was operated on for a blood clot in his shoulder. To lose another netminder in the system to injury (for an unclear extent of time) wasn’t exactly comfortable to hear at the time, even if the club had brought in veteran Ray Emery on a professional tryout contract.

News from practice this morning should relieve a degree of concern about the goalie nicknamed “Skittles” and known for a Yak tee-shirt:

Gudlevskis went down with an ambiguous upper-body injury during the final game of the prospect tournament. Until Vasilevskiy’s blood clot, Gudlevskis was seen as destined to start the season with the Syracuse Crunch in a tandem with first-year pro Adam Wilcox. Without Vasy available, Gudlevskis is a candidate (along with Emery) to back up starter Ben Bishop with the Lightning.
