Drouin with a beauty of a rocket against Toronto Maple Leafs

With the game winding down last night against the Toronto Maple Leafs, Valtteri Filppula drew a double-minor high sticking penalty. The Lightning scored on a Vladislav Namestnikov rebound shot in the first half of the penalty to make it 6-3. That gave them another full two minutes of a power play. Jonathan Drouin came down the right wing side with Nikita Kucherov and Brayden Point on the other side setting up for a pass or to collect a rebound chance.

The only defender back for the Maple Leafs was Matthew Hunwick with Zack Hyman coming back, but not making much effort to get back in the play. You can see Hunwick whipping his head back and forth trying to read the play while Frederik Andersen came out to challenge Drouin. Drouin had multiple options; pass to Kucherov, pass to point, shoot for the far pad to create a rebound chance, scream it home. He chose the latter with a beauty of a slapper that went top shelf over Andersen’s glove. The goal put the Lightning up 7-3 for the final margin of victory.
