Quick Strikes: The teeth of the storm

The Bolts

Before we get into recaps from the game, Down Goes Brown discussed eight teams that never get to play in outdoor games. He even linked to a Raw Charge piece! But he also made a good point that our Editor Emeritus John Fontana will discuss at around 1 PM today. [Down Goes Brown]

Because TBL was in Canada, more news venues than the usual ones covered the game. Here’s the National Post recap. “Stamkos matched a career-high with four points (two goals and two assists) as the Lightning struck with a 7-3 win over the Leafs at the Air Canada Centre. Andersen gave up seven goals on only 24 shots, the third time in five starts that he’s allowed at least five goals and fourth time he’s allowed four or more.” [Natty Post]

Why didn’t Leafs coach Mike Babcock pull his poor goalie? “‘He’s my guy, I want him to play,’ Babcock said after Toronto’s fifth loss in six games to start the season. ‘So I could pull him and then say `OK I showed you!’ But what did I show him? To me dig in there with the rest of the guys, make the next save and give us a chance to come back and win the game. You can’t do that sitting on the bench.'” [Associated Press]

This headline speaks for itself. “Goalie Ben Bishop is in limbo — but at peace with his lot with the Lightning this season.” [ESPN]

Speaking of Ben Bishop …

I hope the team dentist was on the trip. Here’s the video of the whole thing. [Puck Daddy]

Mike Babcock actually cursed at reporters yesterday who asked him about Leafs goaltending issues. “Mike Babcock does not have time for your bad goaltending narratives.” [Pension Plan Puppets]

“In late September 1981, Wayne Gretzky took to a secluded Florida condo for five days with a couple of close friends. Barely anyone, including his parents, knew he was there, and he preferred it that way.” [CBC]

Imagine being such an important, deeply embedded part of the sport that people give you pieces of the arena?

Have a lovely Wednesday!
