Quick Strikes: The Battle of Florida continues in game 3 between the Panthers and Lightning

The Bolts

Tampa Bay Lightning’s Brayden Point and the Toronto Maple Leaf’s Mitch Marner were linemates at the World Championships last spring, Let’s take a look at how they have fared individually this season. “Marner, a dynamic offensive threat that produces enough to make up for his weaknesses defensively and Point, a responsible center that is playing on the second line but putting up points at the rate of a 1C.” [Raw Charge]

Tyler Johnson, Vladislav Namestnikov, and Slater Koekkoek visited a haunted house. Aren’t you glad they brought a camera crew with them? I know I am.

Elliotte Friedman’s 31 Thoughts is a treasure trove of information. This week’s edition contains come useful information on defenseman Mikhail Sergachev and Assistant General Manager Julien BriseBois. “If BriseBois really wants a job, the Lightning would probably let him interview. It wouldn’t be worth the negativity and animosity that would be generated if they drew a line in the sand.” [Raw Charge]

It appears Sergachev is here to stay. “The 19-year-old rookie defenseman got another vote of confidence recently, the team telling him it was okay to look for an apartment in Tampa. Sergachev is moving out of the hotel he’s lived in since training camp into a two-bedroom spot downtown.” [Tampa Bay Times]

The Prospects

Otto Somppi had two assists and five shots in Halifax’s 6-2 win over Charlottetown.

Christopher Paquette scored in Peterborough’s 8-3 take-down of Hamilton.

Finally, Taylor Raddysh lead the Erie Otters to a 4-1 victory over Subury, scoring two goals. “Raddysh was first star for the second straight game.” [Bolt Prospects]

The Game

Louis Domingue and Griffin Reinhart have been placed on waivers, as of yesterday. Being placed on waivers means that players can be claimed by another NHL team or (if they don’t get claimed), players are re-assigned to the AHL. Despite being unable to stick around in the NHL so far in his career, Reinhart is a 4th-overall pick from 2012, which means someone is going to give him a chance – again.

Vadim Shipachyov (yes, this drama isn’t over, yet) was assigned to the Chicago Wolves and was expected to play for them against the Milwaukee Admirals. Instead, Shipachyov flew back to Vegas with his family and, as a result, has been suspended by the team. “Engels also reports that if Shipachyov isn’t traded as early as Monday, his contract could be terminated, opening the door to a return to Russia.” [Knights on Ice]

In his latest “Leafs Fan Reaction”, Steve Dangle asserts that the Toronto Maple Leafs’ defense is not good enough, and hasn’t been good enough for months. Is it time for a systems change? Perhaps a personnel change? What about a coaching cha– Just kidding, Mike Babcock is the best coach in the league. Lastly, Steve is doing a charity hockey game in support of Easterseals, an organization that supports families with children who have special needs. If you’d like to donate, link is in the article. Highlight of the Night: Blake Wheeler scored a first period hattrick on the Pittsburgh Penguins. His third goal was on a goalie, Casey DeSmith, who had never faced an NHL shot yet in his career until Wheeler scored on him. [All three goals]
