Preview

The Seattle Kraken come into tonight’s game with a six-game losing streak which includes their last two home games. Meanwhile the Lightning have flown across the country with a four-game road losing streak stuffed into the overhead compartment. Misery meats melancholy tonight at Climate Pledge Arena. The good news is that one team will finally see a “W” next to their name once play is complete late into the Saturday night.

It’s pretty easy to see why the Lightning are 0-4 on the road as they’ve totaled just four goals in those losses. It’s not as if they haven’t had their chances as they’ve posted a 14.25 xGF over that stretch with 126 shots, 127 scoring chances, and 53 high-danger chances. The good news is that a 3.1 shooting percentage isn’t sustainable and they are due for some regression at some point.

The good news is that they’re facing a team that’s pretty much having the same issues they are. During their six-game slide they’re averaging 1.48 5v5 goals per game, 30th in the league. They are 20th in xGF/60 at 2.51, just slightly behind the Lightnings 2.55. A 4.52% shooting percentage at 5v5 isn’t helping things.

Defensively, they’re not getting great goaltending when it comes to high-danger chances. Over the six games the’re allowing 10.70 high-danger chances per game, which is middle of the pack, but their 2.12 high-danger goals allows is 29th. The smoking gun is a .714 high-danger save percentage from their goaltenders, only the Stars’ .711 is worse.

So, if the Lightning can get quality chances they have a chance of putting some goals on the board. That’s a pretty big if with the way the Bolts have been playing , though.

Question of the Night

Should you stay up for this game? Probably. First of all, it’s on the weekend. Second with Edmonton and Vancouver next up at 10:00 PM, this could be their best bet at late night victory.
