Florida prep hockey: Tampa Bay Times Forum hosts the Lightning Conference championship

Hockey fans, bloggers, and media people talk prospects all the time: Prep’s from the north, junior leagues by way of Canada and Europe, or guys in collegiate hockey. It’s often overlooked that prep hockey is ongoing in Florida and the Tampa Bay area itself.

For years now, the state has hosted junior hockey by way of the EJHL South. This goes along with the two respective high school ice hockey leagues: the Florida High School Hockey Association (representing the Tampa Bay area through the Lightning Conference) and the Florida Scholastic Hockey League (representing South Florida).

Thursday night at Times Palace, the FHSHA’s Lightning Conference will have its 3rd annual championship game, pitting the East Lake High School Eagles against the Jesuit High School Tigers at 7:30 PM. Admission is free.

ADVISORY: TAMPA BAY TIMES FORUM HOSTS 3RD ANNUAL ‘LIGHTNING CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIP CUP’ TOMORROW NIGHT

What: The Tampa Bay Times Forum will host the third annual ‘Lightning Conference Championship Cup’ between the top two high school teams in the area. The winning team will be awarded the championship trophy by former Lightning greats, Dave Andreychuk and Brian Bradley after the game. Fans can come to this great event free of charge.

When: Thursday, March 1 at 7:30 p.m.

Where: Tampa Bay Times Forum

Who: East Lake High School (14-3-2) vs. Jesuit High School (12-4-3)
