The Tampa Bay Lightning made a few roster moves that may be an indication that Conor Sheary is ready to come off of injured reserve. First they reassigned Philippe Myers and Mitchell Chaffee to the Syracuse Crunch. Then, still needing an extra defenseman, they recalled Sean Day.

Day is making his second trip to the NHL, having been recalled for two games during the 2021-22 season. That was the same season he put up 40 points for the Crunch in 69 games. This year he has 8 points (all assists) for Syracuse in 16 games. With Victor Hedman battling an upper-body injury and likely out for the game against Edmonton, the Bolts have some cushion in the defensive ranks with Day on the roster.

Activating Sheary, who had been moved to LTIR when Chaffee and Myers were recalled, required the Lightning to shed a little off the salary cap and with him back they had a few too many forwards on the roster. Sending Myers and Chaffee down while recalling day, who has a $775,000 cap hit allowed them to do that.
