It’s been a long summer with lots of change, but we got through it mostly intact, but with the same fire burning down deep. Granted, the fire could also be Taco Bell. Anyway! The offseason is over and the Tampa Bay Lightning are back for the start of training camp! We here at Raw Charge are also going to announce a return of sorts, but you’ll have to wait and see later this morning if you haven’t seen the news already.

It’s the three-year anniversary of the Bolts clinching their bid in the Stanley Cup Finals back in 2020. For a fun blast from the past, read our recap from that night!

In a shock, but unsurprising turn of events, Mike Babcock’s tenure as the head coach of the Columbus Blue Jackets was over before it even began. The NHLPA investigated his actions and concluded Babcock wasn’t providing the standard of respect expected from him. This is the first time in my memory, beyond a lockout, the PA has done anything for player rights. The old crew with Don Fehr got their paychecks and let Bettman walk all over them. I was expecting nothing from this investigation. I’m very relieved for the players the findings actually turned into action. That’s my takeaway here.

By resigning, and via the negotiated exit, Babcock likely wouldn’t have recieved much of his two-year, $4 million contract to coach. My only wonder now is how long before Bill Peters follows, and I pray to God he doesn’t hurt anyone before his time is up. He’s currently coaching minors with the WHL Lethbridge Hurricanes. I’m sorry if this makes me paranoid or whatever, but with his history with minors in his care, I’m terrified. Get him outta there.

Last bit of news from Sunday. The PWHL Draft is this afternoon, catch yourself up on everything around it with this primer here.
