Lightning Round: Tampa Bay Lightning unveil their Reverse Retro jersey

On Monday, the Tampa Bay Lightning and other NHL teams finally revealed their Reverse Retro ADIZERO Authentic jersey. As was expected, the Lightning went with version of their 2004 jersey, which the team wore during the first Stanley Cup Victory (although it’s not fully the same, as the Lightning switched the black color theme to blue). Per Adidas the main meaning of this campaign is giving new look to some classic jerseys, while combining them with modern design. [NHL.com]

“Hockey fans love retro jerseys and Reverse Retro is a great opportunity for adidas to work closely with the NHL and all 31 teams to bring back a design from a meaningful point in team history with a unique twist,” said Dan Near, Senior Director at adidas Hockey. “Our goal from day one has been to work with the NHL and all of the teams to bring creativity, innovation, and energy to the sport with all that we do. What better way to do that than to bring together the nostalgia of historical moments in each team’s history with something new via designs that have never been seen before in the sport.”

Many of the Lightning fans were disappointed that the Lightning didn’t choose the Storm jersey design as their nostalgia throwback jersey, but they would probably appreciate that the Lightning didn’t forgot to put victory stripes on new jerseys.

The NHL still haven’t revealed how often the teams will wear these jerseys, however it’s known that each teams will use them at least once to refresh some old and new rivalries. The new jerseys are already available to pre-order at some Tampa Bay Sports locations, including AMALIE Arena, or at TampaBaySports.com till the end of november. The price for personalised jersey is $279.99 and the blank jersey is available at $179.99. Starting December 1 all jerseys will be available at adidas.com and NHLShop.com

The pandemic affected the lives many of us, and even the Stanley Cup winning team is not an exception. Yesterday the Lightning eliminated 30 full-time positions, not including the hockey operations. All employees will receive severance and if they were working full-time on the day the Lightning won the Stanley Cup, they will receive a Cup ring.

The Lightning owner Jeff Vinik has already mentioned back in August that the team were losing a lot money due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Initially the management were planning on cutting salaries for some employees, but later abandoned this decision.

The Buffalo Sabres signed Jack Quinn, the 8th overall pick in the 2020 NHL Entry Draft, to an entry-level deal.

Reportedly Brett Peterson is joining the Florida Panthers as general manager assistant. He would become the first Black assistant general manager in the NHL history.
