Quick Strikes: after a long week, it’s a Tampa Bay Lightning game day!

The Bolts

Why the stars on the Tampa Bay Lightning have been holding the team back, by LoserPoints. [Raw Charge]

The Tampa Bay Lightning were one of the best teams in the NHL last season. So far this season, they’ve been far from that. We wrote on Tuesday about how frustrating they’ve been to start the season. Much of that frustration is due to how inept they’ve looked offensively. A team known for high-powered offense has put up multiple games already this year that would’ve been among their worst offensive performances of last season.

Andrei Vasilevskiy is as sweet as chocolate.

Mathieu Joseph and Swedish artist Yung Gravy just hanging out!

And with that, it’s game day!!

The Prospects

Alex is back with a new Syracuse Speaks! Lots of juicy conversation in this one! [Raw Charge]

In this episode, host Alex Ackerman says she feels it’s put-up-or-shut-up time when it comes to naming a captain for the Crunch. She expresses her frustration with the process that seems to have been halted by the arrival of former Crunch captain Luke Witkowski. She then gathers herself back together in time to discuss some former Crunch players that could be paying their old team a visit this month (including Hubert Labrie, Matt Beleskey, and Matthew Peca). Finally, she rounds out the episode with a peak into two upcoming promotional nights for the team: Military Appreciation Night and their Hockey Fights Cancer game.

21-year-old free agent signing Peter Abbandonato had two assists in three ECHL games. HE also has two goals in five AHL games for the Crunch this season.

At 6-foot-2, 217 pounds, Witkowski is a sleek-skating tank. Those attributes have earned him a spot in the NHL the last couple seasons as a fourth-line right winger for Detroit and Tampa Bay. He’s clearly there to grind away: Witkowski potted one goal in 31 games for Detroit two seasons ago and none in 34 last year. Tampa Bay inked him as a free-agent last summer, and he tallied one goal in 12 games with the team this season.

The Game

The AHL is 83 years old yesterday. What a blast from the past.

In injury news, the Colorado Avalanche currently find themselves without Mikko Rantanen, Gabriel Landeskog, and now Nathan Mackinnon. This is Nazem Kadri’s team now.

Also in injury news, more brutal news from the Winnipeg Jets.

Disney is rebooting the Mighty Ducks movies with a new TV series! [Anaheim Calling]

In January of 2018, The Hollywood Reporter detailed a plan to bring the Mighty Ducks franchise to TV, reviving a cultural icon that helped launch the fandom of millions of kids and serve as the inspiration for Disney to bring a new expansion NHL franchise to Anaheim.
