Quick Strikes for Monday, December 21

  • Recapping last night’s Lightning / Senators game form the other side of the fence. The Senators were depleted (boy, that sounds familiar) and stifled. [Silver Seven Sens]
  • In case you missed the news: J.T. Brown – out! Erik Condra – in! [Pro Hockey Talk]
  • The Lightning is healing as the Condra news presents, though the Boyle situation last night adds a new body to the list. How is Tampa surviving? The blood borrowed from the Syracuse Crunch. [Tampa Bay Times]
  • It’s too late for it to arrive for Christmas but with the value of “Tampacuse” it’s probably a good time to reintroduce you to “Greetings from Tampacuse.” [Gameday Depot]
  • In the weekly “Nuts and Bolts”, Mike Blunden answers a few questions, and a member of the Lightning staff had a big return to Toronto last week (and it wasn’t Steven Stamkos in this case – it was Steve Thomas). [Tampa Bay Times]
  • How much it’s happening is probably up for debate among Lightning fans, but defenseman Andrej Sustr’s game is more rounded-out this season. [Tampa Tribune]
  • 9 forwards, 9 defensemen, and a 5-4 overtime loss for the Crunch yesterday against the Hershey Bears. [Syracuse Crunch]
  • The Crunch had also lost Saturday night against Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, getting shut out 3-0. [Syracuse.com]
  • Oh, for you Syracuse and central New York area fans, the last Cyber Monday deal from the Crunch is today. [Syracuse Crunch]
  • [Lightning prospect Brayden Point made Team Canada’s 2015 U20 IIHF World Junior Championships roster. The tournament starts on Saturday, December 26. [Eyes on the Prize]
  • The other team in Florida is streaking and keeping itself ahead of Tampa Bay in the standings. The Panthers beat the Canucks 5-4 via the shootout on Sunday. [SB Nation]
  • Oh, and that Jaromir Jagr guy? He’s sort of good at scoring goals. Like, 4th best all time in the National Hockey League kind of good now. [SB Nation]
  • Of streak talk, the Grand Rapids Griffins of the AHL are now at 14 games in-a-row after taking down the Texas Stars 6-1. [Winging it in Motown]
  • The Lightning may be dinged up (understatement) but injuries are also out there for other clubs. Case in point: Penguins captain Sidney Crosby missed practice on Sunday with a lower body injury. [Pensburgh]
  • From Saturday, the Toronto Maple Leafs beat the Los Angeles Kings. The reason that’s interesting enough to share with you is because Jonathan Bernier shut out the Kings in this game – his first win of the season. [CBC]
  • The New York Islanders are loaning one of their prospects, Kirill Petrov, to AK Bars Kazan of the KHL. [Lighthouse Hockey]
  • The other New York club is mismanaging defenseman Keith Yandle, who they paid a load to get at the trade deadline last year. [Today’s Slapshot]
