Quick Strikes for Tuesday, March 10

  • It’s time to recap Tampa Bay Lightning owner Mr. Jeff Vinik’s impact upon the city of Tampa! [The Hockey Writers]
  • Hockey in Las Vegas, blah, blah, blah, ticket drive not up to expectations, blah, blah, blah. C’mon, we all know that the NHL will announce they get an expansion team at the NHL Awards Show there in Vegas in June, regardless of the locals interested in buying tickets. That’s like a no-brainer. But will Seattle get a team then, too? That’s what I want to know. [SportsNet]

  • James Mirtle believes that, barring a total end of season collapse, Carey Price of the Montreal Canadiens has this Hart Trophy race tied up. You know, if the voters will even talk about goalies. Because when was the last time a goalie got the Hart Trophy? (Answer: Jose Theodore in 2002 – also then with the Montreal Canadiens.) [The Globe and Mail]
  • Apparently, the Art Ross Trophy winner is projected to have the fewest points of any previous winner since 1968. Not including lockout yeas, of course. Hey, did you hear that, Steven Stamkos and Tyler Johnson? [Last Word On Sports]
  • The Winnipeg Jets will likely move their AHL affiliate back to Winnipeg. They will probably be named the Manitoba Moose, once again. Seems as if this trend of AHL teams moving closer to their NHL city might be the wave of the future. Can Orlando handle an AHL team, though? [Winnipeg Free Press]
  • Did a girls hockey championship get called before there was a winner so that the boys could start their championship game on time? No one seems to want to admit that’s the case. But the question is: Would the reverse have ever happened? Probably not. [ESPNW]

The Canadian Women’s Hockey League (CWHL) have their Clarkson Cup winner. Congratulations to the Boston Blades this year. Still, should the NHL support them as the NBA supports the WNBA? Some think so. [Stanley Cup of Chowder]

  • Someone decided to analyze the effectiveness of the Dallas Stars on NHL Draft Day. They’re starting back in 1993 because that’s when the Minnesota North Stars moved to Dallas. And if you don’t remember that, well…GET OFF MY LAWN. [Defending Big D]
  • I’m not sure who to feel worse for – the fact that Puck Daddy feels the need to resort to tumblr, or that they get so many jersey fouls sent to them that they had to create a site specifically for that. The rules for wearing a jersey are simple, really. Only wear the jersey of a team that’s playing that night in the arena you’re in. A player on the current team’s junior, college, or minor league jersey is also acceptable, but only with their names on the jersey. The rest, I’m afraid, are jersey fouls. [Puck Daddy Jersey Fouls]
