Quick Strikes for Tuesday, May 12

  • Erik Erlendsson broke the extremely unfortunate news that Tampa Bay Lightning right winger Ryan Callahan had an emergency appendectomy last night. It’s unclear at this time how long he’ll be out for. Best wishes to him for a full recovery. [Tampa Tribune]
  • If you missed this on Sunday, here you go. It’s our own Allokago’s account of attending Game 5 in Montreal last weekend. [Raw Charge]
  • Speaking of Montreal, if you happen to be there, they’re selling tickets to the Bell Centre for Game 6 so that they can watch their beloved Montreal Canadiens. Yes, I know Game 6 is in Tampa. They’re selling tickets to watch the game on the center ice screen, though – and for charity. [CBC Sports]
  • Playoff scoring is down, so now people want to tinker with the game. As usual. I sometimes think that the NHL’s only real tradition is changing up the rules every season. It’s no wonder referees don’t know what they’re supposed to call. [Puck Daddy]
  • Former Lightning head coach John Tortorella is looking for a coaching gig in the NHL next season. It’ll be interesting to see if there are any takers. While Torts is undoubtedly a good coach, he also seems to have a short locker room shelf life. [The Hockey News]
  • Speaking of coaches looking for coaching jobs, Detroit Red Wings head coach Mike Babcock is testing the waters to see what’s out there. There’s a former NHL goalie who seems to think that he’ll end up with the Toronto Maple Leafs. Which, I’m sure, Leafs fans would be totally okay with. [Pension Plan Puppets]
  • The Minnesota Wild may have been swept out of the second round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs by the Chicago Blackhawks, but that doesn’t mean that there will be wholesale changes made to the team, either. Of course, part of that has to do with the team being right up to the top of the salary cap, but…details! [Minneapolis Star Tribune]
  • And finally – as well as off topic – our very own Clark Brooks will be doing stand-up comedy this Sunday for your viewing pleasure. Please go support him. Trust me, you won’t be disappointed. [Ridiculously Inconsistent Trickle of Consciousness]
