Quick Strikes: Gemel Smith scored three goals over the weekend for Syracuse Crunch

The Lightning

Tampa Bay Lightning beat writer Bryan Burns reviewed the last game against the Nashville Predators  and pointed out on some weakness of the Lightning play, including getting too many penalties [NHL.com]

Two of the Lightning’s five penalties, including the one in overtime, were too many men on the ice calls. Tyler Johnson said after the game he couldn’t remember a time seeing multiple too many men calls made on the same team in the same game.

”We’ve got to be smarter,” Stamkos added. “We took some offensive zone penalties, some too many men penalties, those are just easy, easy fixes. We believe in our group. We just have to dig deep a little bit and pay attention a little more to the details, and we’ll improve in those areas.”

The Lightning twitter account asked if some members of the Distant Thunder club are joining them in Sweden in one week.

The Game

The Blainville-Boisbriand Armada’s Yaroslav Likhachev scored a beautiful lacrosse goal in a QMJHL game.

The New York Islanders extended their winning streak to seven games after beating the Philadelphia Flyers. It’s the first time they’ve won seven games in a row since the 1989-90 season. The Lightning face them on Friday.

The Bolts’ next Lightning opponent, the New York Rangers, have been outclassed by the Boston Bruins 7-4. The first line of the Bruins shined as usual: David Pastrnak recorded five assists, Patrice Bergeron scored hat trick, Brad Marchand scored twice and added three assists.

The Vegas Golden Knights Nicolas Roy scored his first NHL goal in his first career game and helped his team to earn a victory over the Anaheim Ducks.

The San Jose Sharks have been defeated by the Ottawa Senators. It was a harsh night for former Senator Erik Karlsson who was on the ice for all five opponents goals.
