The Lightning are notoriously tight-lipped about their roster manipulations so take this rumor with a grain of salt the size of Lake Okeechobee, but it looks like they are making some calls in regards to veteran Vancouver defenseman Chris Tanev [Raw Charge]

Tanev is a unique player in how specifically focused his skill set is. He is an outstanding defender who offers hardly any offense. In the past, he has shown more offensive impact than in recent years and that might return if he was traded to a better team than the one he’s on in Vancouver. But even if his offense doesn’t rebound, it doesn’t matter. His defensive impacts are so substantial that he’s a net positive impact player regardless of what he does on offense.

Even in the middle of summer, the Lightning are doing the best to spread the game. On Tuesday, the organization visited Camp DASH, a free YMCA program at Harllee Middle School in Manatee County, and donated street hockey equipment. [Bradenton Herald]

The donation was part of the Lightning’s ”Equip the Thunder” project, which aims to donate 100,000 logoed street hockey sticks and balls and 500 complete sets of gear over five years to elementary and middle schools in need.

So far, the team has already donated to 335 schools since the program began three years ago. That’s 84,000 sticks and balls and 342 complete sets of hockey gear.

Beleaguered forward Mike Hoffman was traded from Ottawa to San Jose...for about an hour. He then found himself traded from the Sharks to the Florida Panthers. Here are the deals:

Here’s how it all went down; the day started with the exciting news of Hoffman getting traded to the San Jose Sharks for Mikkel Boedker, Julius Bergman and a sixth round pick. Not the best return but decent, especially with the Boedker-Duchene relationship and loading up on young Swedish Ds is never a bad thing, add to that the minor savings in cap and actual cash.

San Jose - [Fear the Fin]

Dealing Mikkel Boedker to the Senators and flipping Hoffman allows to the Sharks to dump Boedker’s $4 million contract in its entirety, while accumulating draft picks in a year where the Sharks are missing a second- and third- round draft pick.

It’s possible Doug Wilson isn’t done. He indicated yesterday that the Sharks are in a position to add players to the roster.

Florida - [Litter Box Cats]

The Florida Panthers have acquired embattled forward Mike Hoffman and a 2018 seventh round pick from the San Jose Sharks in exchange for Florida’s 2019 second round pick, 2018 fourth round pick (via Vegas) and 2018 5th round pick.

“Mike is a skilled, consistent and hard-working player who has proven himself to be a talented goal scorer in the NHL,” said general manager Dale Tallon. “His speed, experience and offensive abilities will bolster our top-six group.”

Artemi Panarin could be on the move. [The Columbus Dispatch]

Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet reported Tuesday that the forward has declined to talk with the Blue Jackets about a contract extension “at this time.” Because of that, Friedman reported that general manager Jarmo Kekalainen was “testing the market” on Panarin heading into the NHL draft, which begins Friday in Dallas.
