Quick Strikes: The Blues even up the Cup and the Flyers make a move

The Bolts

The Lightning news for today is nothing. Well, not entirely nothing. Andrei Vasilevskiy rode around in what appears to be a wagon hitched to a brush cutter? No idea and not asking Google Translate for help. Just enjoying this image at face value and moving on.

The Prospects

The news with the prospects is equally thin but much cuter. But first, the Solar Bears made roster news yesterday.

The Orlando Solar Bears have announced their 2019 Protected List this afternoon. The team has included 20 players on its Protected List, which is comprised of 11 forwards, seven defensemen and two goaltenders.

Out of the club’s Protected List, Orlando has retained the rights to two players who will have veteran status for the 2019-20 season (Akim Aliu and Mike Monfredo), and four rookies (Tommy Davis, Ryan Lough, Jackson Playfair and Clint Windsor).

FORWARDS: Mark Bennett, Hunter Fejes, Dylan Fitze, Mathieu Foget, Ivan Kosorenkov, Chris LeBlanc, Ryan Lough (R), Trevor Olson, Brent Pedersen, Jackson Playfair (R), Tayler Thompson

DEFENSEMEN: Akim Aliu (V), Tommy Davis (R), Alexander Kuqali, Kevin Lohan, Rob Mann, Mike Monfredo (V), Nolan Valleau

GOALTENDERS: Corbin Boes, Clint Windsor (R)

But enough of that, here’s some pictures of Syracuse Crunch staffers with pups.

The Game

Apparently, NHL teams are still playing real hockey games that count? Seems wrong but that’s what they tell me. The Blues beat the Bruins 4-2 to even the series at two games powered by two goals from Ryan O’Reilly. I guess maybe a player being frustrated about playing on one of the worst teams in the league for years isn’t really a good reason to trade said player for collection of flea market cast offs. Who could’ve possible known.

St. Louis Gametime has the winning team’s recap.

A little over midway through the period, Ryan O’Reilly scored his second goal of the night on another rebound bid. Alex Pietrangelo again fired the initial shot on net. The rebound came back at O’Reilly and he batted it out of midair and past Rask for the 3-2 lead.

In the only actual off-ice news of the day, the Flyers spent a 5th round pick to get exclusive negotiating rights with pending free agent Kevin Hayes. Philly could use some center depth behind the formerly perennially underrated and now probably appropriately rated Sean Couturier. Hayes will bring that if they can get him signed. This seems like a perfectly fine investment as long as they have some confidence they can entice him with pretzels, water ice, and summer time pool parties in the back of some dude’s truck. And to be honest, Kevin Hayes seems like the type of guy for whom all of that would be appealing.

If you missed it yesterday, here at Raw Charge, Lauren Kelly released her final ranking of the top 35 prospects for this month’s NHL draft. Did she go with Hughes or Kakko in the top spot? Who went third? Where does she have Caufield? So many questions! Click the link to get answers!
