Okay, so the Tampa Bay Lightning and Florida Panthers played a preseason game last night in the Orlando Solar Bears arena. The final score was 3-2 for the Panthers, but that doesn’t much matter when you have a look at what happened in the third period. I’ll give you a spoiler and then share all the video I could find of all the fights from the night.

This all kicked off because Sam Bennett ran Andrei Vasilevskiy while the goalie was behind the net. The Lightning were naturally incensed and went after Bennett. The resulting brawls and cheap shots raged throughout the entire period until the two sides were separated after the final whistle. These clips won’t be in chronological order, but you don’t care. Here’s some fights.

Pat Maroon: “You run the goalie, you’re going to get answered to.” Said a lot of guys stuck up for Andrei Vasilevskiy. Maroon felt Boris Katchouk’s bout with Bennett went a long way in the room and “opened some eyes.” #tblightning

Micah from Hockey Viz has published this season’s Regular Season Preview. Take a look at how his model values the Lightning and where they fit within the standings. Micah’s stuff is great because it’s really easy to read, even if it’s sometimes hard to believe where the numbers come from. [Hockey Viz]

Alex Galchenyuk signed a league minimum contract yesterday with the Arizona Coyotes. He had been offered a bigger deal from Toronto but turned it down (or waited too long and they signed Nick Ritchie instead). That was the only signing news of the day.
As we have noted multiple times, no chance Galchenyuk (or agent Pat Brisson) agrees to a PTO here (while turning down an offer from Toronto) without some assurance that he would have an opportunity. Per Darren’s report, he now has that opportunity. https://t.co/pvOB1ck1l6

In non-signing signing news, the Ottawa Senators have yet to come to an agreement with their best player, Brady Tkachuk, on a new deal. They’re at a risk of falling below the salary cap floor (imagine that) and incurring a cash penalty.

Robin Lehner published his press conference yesterday via the Golden Knights youtube account following his talks with the NHL and NHLPA.
“Retired players don’t get change because they go in with the ax right away… I’m not looking to bring anything down. I’m not looking to talk about this in a public manner any more. I’m looking to bring about change.”
Lehner says he believes NHL is sincere in also wanting change. https://t.co/MUiQrVFPZY— Rick Westhead (@rwesthead) October 5, 2021
