Tampa Bay Lightning’s Steven Stamkos and Brett Connolly earn top monthly honors in the NHL and AHL

The Lightning organization has a pair of goal-scorers that can’t stop lighting the lamp and both were named No. 1 star for the month of February in their respective leagues. The first is Steven Stamkos and the other is the Syracuse Crunch’s Brett Connolly in the AHL.

We’ll start with Stamkos first. Stamkos’ hot February of 10 goals and 10 assists in 14 games surely wouldn’t have gone unnoticed. From Feb 16-26, the Tampa Bay center scored in six straight games, netting seven goals in that span. So far, his scoring streak is the longest of the 2013 NHL season. The month of February saw Stamkos scoring six multi point games and he tallied at least one point in 11 games.

Stamkos closed out the month on an eight game point streak. The two-time Rocket Richard winner currently leads the NHL with 15 goals after his power play tally against the Bruins this afternoon. He’s also tied for the lead in points with 32.

The NHL’s No. 2 star for the month was Pittsburgh Penguins‘ center Sidney Crosby and the third star went to Chicago Blackhawks goalie, Ray Emery.

As for Brett Connolly, who was tabbed as the AHL’s No. 1 star for the month; Connolly was on fire, helping Syracuse reclaim first place in the East division. The Crunch ended February on an eight-game winning streak (which was snapped last night in a loss to Albany).

In the 13 games he played during the month, Connolly landed on the scoresheet in 12 of them, scoring seven goals and eight assists. Connolly also had a plus-six rating on top of it.

Connolly has 49 points in 53 games for the Crunch this season, his 22 assists and 27 goals leaves him tied for fourth in the entire AHL in scoring.
