That’s a wrap!

This week’s observation:

The Crunch has now lost 7 regular season games in 3-on-3 overtime. The team’s struggles in that extra frame has led to three overtime losses during the month of January, which is the most games they’ve had go to OT since they played three games in a row in November that needed extra hockey (the Crunch lost two of them).

Syracuse is a team struggling to stay in the playoff picture. Cracking 3-on-3 OT (it seems like I’ve said this before…) could be a way to ease some of those struggles.

This week’s compliment(s):

Although forwards Jeff Tambellini and Tye McGinn have been rocking the Crunch’s scoresheet lately – they lead the Crunch in scoring and are first and second respectively – rookie Matthew Peca has been quietly putting together his best month this season in January. Peca currently has 7 assists and is a +2. He had 6 assists in December and was a -7.

Peca’s work ethic has been tireless, but up until lately he hasn’t had much to show from that on the scoresheet. It’s good to see thing start to come together for the first-year pro, and it can only mean good things for the Crunch if it continues.

Other transactions, player, and organizational news:

-The Crunch are again participating in a Change for Change initiative this season, and are hoping to raise even more than last season with an extended campaign. Change for Change is an initiative created by Crunch Captain Mike Angelidis and his teammates that aims to raise money for pediatric cancer research at Upstate Golisano Children’s Hospital and help improve the odds for children with cancer. All TampaCuse fans can help out by donating through their Go Fund Me page.

-The AHL All-Star Classic is coming up quick. In fact, the Skills Competition is this Sunday! Tickets are still available. Here’s a complete list of the players headed to Syracuse for the weekend.
