After practice concluded for the day, Raw Charge caught up with Lightning General Manager Steve Yzerman, Coach Jon Cooper, and third overall selection Jonathan Drouin.
Drouin’s whirlwind summer continued with the first day of developmental camp. The 18 year old, drafted less than a week ago by the Lightning, signed his entry level contract yesterday after his arrival in Tampa for camp. Regardless of how exhausted he should be, he came out on to the ice and flashed his skills for the fans on hand, scoring the first goal in Group A’s practice session.
Coach Cooper, now in his fourth year running the Lightning’s prospect development camp, said day one is not much of an indicator of where players are but more of a starting point and a menial-physical testing type of day. When Cooper spoke with the media, he sang the praises of Drouin along with other players who have been to Tampa Bay’s prospect camp. He also offered comments on yesterday’s signing of center Valtteri Filppula.
When it was Yzerman’s turn to talk to the media, focusing mostly on Jonathan Drouin.
Developmental camp continues tomorrow at the Ice Sports Forum, starting bright and early at 8:15 AM.
