That’s a wrap!

With the Syracuse Crunch’s playoff picture all but dimmed completely, the Tampa Bay Lightning has apparently started to make plans for next season (Crunch fans can hope, anyway). This past week, veteran defenseman Joey Mormina was traded to the Rochester Americans for future considerations. Mormina had been with the team for the better part of three seasons, but his ice time had practically disappeared over the last few weeks. The move will hopefully give Mormina a better chance to play, and it will also allow more ice time to be distributed to Lightning defensive prospects in Syracuse.

The AHL trade deadline is today. Players on two-way contracts can still be moved as long as they’re currently on AHL rosters, so there’s a chance the Lightning will do something to shore up Syracuse before the end of the regular season. The Crunch is still as wildly inconsistent as it was earlier this season: coming off of a month where it lost all but three games, the Crunch now has 7 points out of a possible 8 in their last four.

Other transactions, player, and organizational news:

-The Crunch are again participating in a Change for Change initiative this season, and are hoping to raise even more than last season with an extended campaign. Change for Change is an initiative created by Crunch Captain Mike Angelidis and his teammates that aims to raise money for pediatric cancer research at Upstate Golisano Children’s Hospital and help improve the odds for children with cancer. All TampaCuse fans can help out by donating through their Go Fund Me page.

-Forward Philippe Paradis, who hasn’t played a game since he was hurt on January 29th, returned to the Crunch’s line up last night.

-With the news that goalie Allen York retired this past week, the Lightning signed goaltender Nicola Riopel for the remainder of the 2015-16 season.

-Goalie prospect Adam Wilcox has stared the last four games the Crunch has played and has gone 3-0-0-1.
